15.7.19 Part A- Bush camp just South of Walkers Crossing to Birdsville and back out again.

Last night around the fire we decided we could get away early to get into Birdsville and do all the things we need to - fuel, tickets, merchandise, firewood, water, showers, coffee and then come back out of town to camp before heading into Birdsville and Bashville on Tuesday. The plan was to leave at 8.30.

Up at 5.45 as loo was calling. A rather cool night and grateful for the hot water bottle.

In fact an hour or so later when filling the billy from my water carrier it was making a slushy, frozen in the hole and in the water too.

Slushy direct at tap.

Final phaffing at the fire.

Actual departure time = 8.39. Very good by our standards.

Approaching Walkers Croasing

Puss in Boots at Walkers Crossing

There is the old Walkers Crossing - road through the creek which is now crossed by a new bridge

The Coopers Creek was running.

A bra tree along Walkers Crossing track.

After about 147kms we hit the Birdsville Track and turned right towards Birdsville. There had been floodwaters through here and we passed through some amazingly green sections with crop like sections and fairway grass in others and some flowers here and there.

We had decided to look for some campsites along the way to come back out to tonight. Sussex our two spots and we also phoned Pandi Pandi station to see if they had anything but only got an answering machine.

Part way along the track they have created an 8.5km detour due no doubt to water over the track. It was a great detour along the edge of a dune so had some sandy patches and a bit of height to look over the floodplain.

A section of the track with water across most of the road.  Here comes Steve and Sarah in the Troopy.

Our view driving through.

The place Moongarra Channel where water crossed the road. Phil and I pulled up for a quick photo and pit stop and started a trend. Several other vehicles also stopped for photos

Troopy again.

There was a lot of water in the Channel

An interesting plant.

Trying to catch the green landscape

The other end of the Birdsville track. Ska is ready to do but there really isn’t a road at the moment.

Phil’s shots capturing the lush green growth in wet areas.

And still dusty in the middle of the track

  1. Are drivers permitted to use phones for photography in the outback? Can blogs be used in court as evidence?
