15.7.19 - Part B Bush camp just South of Walkers Crossing to Birdsville and back out again.

We crossed the border back into QLD and instantly gained half an hour. The signage was plentiful. Phil has captured them better than I did.

As we neared Birdsville we hit our first queue at the Windorah intersection. There were police keeping an eye on things and checking out how much fuel we have as one of the servos has run out of diesel and there is a two to three hour wait for fuel.

Green either side of track. Sometimes it was green on one side and dry and barren on the other.

It is hard to believe that this is water from the cyclone in QLD months ago.

Here’s the line up. Cars coming from Windorah on the right.

ABC is coming to town

Our decision was that we’d head straight into town and check the queues for tickets and merch and showers- if long we’d head out for water. Phil, Mary, Kate and I stopped to purchase two bags of firewood while the others headed into town and out to stockyards for water.
Then it was back into town, plenty of parks near the info centre/showers/ ticket area. We  were in a short line for tickets, then coffee, lunch etc. Merchandise is all out at Bashville this year.

Here we are in short ticket line.

Next stop was showers and fuel discussions- Stef needs fuel and so do I to get to Windorah after the bash.
Phil and I did a quick drive back to the other end of town where we found the fuel queue going out of town as far as we could see.

Our decision was to head back out towards the campsiteswe had earmarked on journey in.

The fuel queue was not as long as expected and the town Common was no where near as crowded as two years ago when we were here. We chatted over radios and decided that we could camp here close to town rather than travelling 30 or so kms out and back tomorrow. We set up mine and Sarah’s tent and the camper then headed back to wait in fuel queue- it was much quicker than anticipated and probably took less than an hour for us ALL to fill up. Then back to our camp for the night. Mary and I went to buy some more firewood but they had packed up. So we stopped to take some photos instead.

The fuel line once we hit the servo itself. Police were monitoring intersection and actually scolded some who tried to push in and sent them packing either in through town or back to the end.

Tomorrow we head out to the Big Red Bash - or to Bashville which is what they call the whole area out near Big Red. The concert starts tomorrow arvo. Will be interesting to see how busy it all is tomorrow as today we found things much less crowded than when we came in as early birds the day before concert two years ago.
