Phil found some new shoots - hope springs eternal!
You can see how barren it is.
Looking back to camp
More new shoots.
Barren lands abound
Into Broken Hill where we popped to the caravan park and paid for showers. I did a bit of hand washing. We then fuelled and topped up shopping with lunch at the Cafe Kona - which claimed “we don’t do FAST FOOD we do good food fast” and they did.
Mary disappeared for a moment to EB games and purchased a Lucky Dip Avengers in the hope of getting Iron Man which she and Steve wanted. (About a 1 in 12 chance) she got lucky and got Iron Man only to return to the table to gloat. Steve couldn’t resist and sent Sarah to have another dip. Mary was prepared to swap IF he won Captain America or Rocket. Sarah came back with the box and Steve hid by the window to see what he got. Lo and behold an extra lucky dip it was. The box and black plastic bag revealed not one but two Captain America’s. So Sarah was happy to score one, Mary the other and Steve got his Ironman as a mascot for the Troopy.
Steve hiding as Phil looks on.
Mary negotiates a swap.
Steve takes ownership of Iron Man
Lunch
Happy with the outcome.
We headed out of BH for Mutawinji, about 60 kms up the blacktop with Kate as passenger. Then onto the dirt and a swap with Mary, through a few gates we ended up in front.
We had some green patches of new growth which was really pleasing to see.
Green grass. We had not seen any decent green for a couple of days.
We hit a few wet patches of road and a very muddy/sticky patch through Ramparts Creek. No major issue just a bit tricky to keep it all going straight ahead. To add some complexity there was a small outback tour bus pulled up on the side part way along - having afternoon tea. They weren’t stuck but maybe considering whether to continue -odd whatever they were doing.
Mary suggested a shortcut which cut a corner off the main road. It was more across farmland. Good track. Saw sheep with lambs at foot and several Roos. We lost the track and followed a cleared path back to Waterbag road. Then into the Mutawinji NP.
We backtracked a little and filled up Phil’s roof bag with wood and headed back into the NP to camp at Mutawinji Homestead Campground.
Collecting firewood.
$6 a night per adult. We got several good sites with a fire ring in the middle. Even a tank with water gas bbq and picnic table nearby.
A pic Meg took of Ska somewhere near Campground I think.

Ready for nibbles.
Stef, Meg and Milani’s camp.
The gang at nibbles- me, Milani, Stef, Meg, Sarah, Steve and Phil. Mary and Kate missing.
It got a bit windy so tent is well pegged out tonight. Given the supply of wood we hung out till almost 7.00 to light it. Dinner and time to sit around the fire. The wood burnt nice and hot and despite the wind being a bit cold earlier it actually wasn’t as cold as it has been. Off to bed about 10.30ish. Might do a walk tomorrow before heading towards White Cliffs.
The closed roads etc have added quite a big detour to get here and we had to skip Menindee as the road between there and White Cliffs is closed.
Like the camp set ups! Nice!
