14.7.19 - Heading to Innamincka - yet again!

Departure time just after 9.30.
Onto the blacktop nearly all the way to Innamincka. They have done some major upgrades and sealing works.

At breaky we hatched a plan to get Phil a drive in the Troopy. Sarah came with me and Mary and Kate commandeered the Paj and Steve hopped into his passenger seat. Which left Phil to steer the Troopy on the blacktop for a few hours.

Two twin Billy’s sitting on the fire.

Kate waking up again.

Sun over the camp.

Ska packed and ready. Not shutting the door till we have too.

Packing up.

The toilet seat and tent getting put away - last minute

Some of the verdant green sections we passed through.

It was so lush.

A river.

Just passed the bridge across river. And a pesky fly up top.

Hitting the South Australian/Queensland border.
As soon as we hit the SA border we hit the dirt again.

There were some serious rocky bits and some corrugations. Traffic was steady going both ways. Passed though some of the Cooper Creek floodway and some very green patches.

Welcome to SA.

A total change of scenery. A rocky outcrop.

Mirror shot of two cars behind us.

We arrived at Innamincka to fuel and have a Pub lunch. There were quite a few cars parked around and the queue for Left had fuel tanks was out to the road - about 6 or 7 cars. In the right hand fillers I only had one big caravan in front of me which was lucky. When Phil filled up after lunch and one pump ran out of diesel in front of him.

Lunch at Innamincka pub.

Ska at the Pub

Milani and I.

Here comes Stef

All roads open, a bit of a change from last year.

On the way out of Innamincka, we turned to look at Wills’ grave on the Cooper Creek.

This cairn indicates that Wills died by the creek in 1861

Then there was the grave by the creek.

Pano at the Creek.

Some flowers Mary and I stopped for today.

This looked ready to burst into something

A purple one at the same spot.

Poached Egg daisy plant.

Pussytails.

One of the many signs to Birdsville.
The track via Walkers crossing twists and turn and sends us in all directions. A camp spot was hard to come by. Very little in the way of trees and therefore wood. We kept driving till 5.00 SA time which is 5.30 and eventually fluked a good spot off the road with some wood. Rather cool, quickly.

Nice sunset

The pink on the other side was good too.

We skipped nibbles today, as we’d all had big lunch at Innamincka pub and it was 6.30 by the time we’d finished setting up.

Very chilly night. It’s going to be another hot water bottle night.

A little lizard friend sheltering in the toilet tent.
